Istat menus snow leopard12/27/2023 Now you just press the keyboard shortcut again, and the dialog box disappears. Keyboard shortcut both opens and closes speller dialogĮarlier, when opening the speller dialog using Cmd-: the dialog would be stuck, and you had to reach for the mouse to close it. Now the new language takes effect immediately, which means it is actually possible to switch languages in e.g. In previous versions of Mac OS X, you had to restart Cocoa applications if you changed the speller language. Other System Speller improvements Immediate speller language change But most of the time it seemed to work, and I had no nasty crashes. Finder restarted once while I was playing with this, and due to the size of our hunspell dic+aff files, spelling was sometimes slow. We finally have system-wide spell checking in Sámi, without having to resort to third-party tools! Turning on Saami spell checking in the system preferences makes the languages available in most Cocoa applications, as shown in the spelling dialog below: Picture: North and Lule Saami spelling languages turned on. Picture: Adding North and Lule Saami spell checking in Snow Leopard. The OS will recognise aff and dic files placed in Library/Spelling/, and based on reports on the net ("of the type used in OpenOffice"), it seems to be hunspell aff and dic files.Īs soon as you place such files in that location, the language will be recognised in the Language and Text > Text system preference: It is possible to specify the spelling language manually, but then only one language pr doc in most Cocoa applications (explicit multilingual markup must be added specifically for each app, it is not supported by the Cocoa framework). Others have had success with mixing English, Spanish, French, Italian and Greek. The quality of this detection is unknown, also the range of languages detected, as well as exactly how it works, and whether it is possible to add new languages.Īfter some initial testing, it seems that big languages are detected - English and German in my case - but not smaller ones, like Norwegian or Sámi. IIRC v6 Waves worked with API and SSL without any problems. This is used to select spell checking language automatically. But the issues with Waves may not have even been OS-related, I think I just had to re-install them. I think I only had issues with Audio Ease (updated for free), Overloud (updated for free), Stillwell (updated for free) and Waves (paid update). By now, I'd think pretty much all still-working developers have offered free updates if their plug-ins didn't work with Snow Leo. I switched from Leo to Snow Leo last November, and even then most of my plug-ins worked fine and didn't require upgrades. Something about the way they're coded takes more RAM than your average Waves/Softube plug-in (which is little to nothing). ![]() Off the top of my head, I'd say most/all reverb & delay plugins use RAM, as well as most/all SoundToys plug-ins. Running Logic in 64-bit mode not only helps free up RAM space for VIs, it allows you to load more RAM-intensive plug-ins. So it's normal that you're getting low-memory warnings and stuff of that sort when you're at 2GB. You'll be able to launch Logic 64-bit right away.ĢGB of RAM usage seems to be the approximate limit for Logic in 32-bit mode. ![]() Once Snow Leo is installed, you wont need to even boot the OS in 64-bit kernel mode. The computer itself can definitely do 64-bit. I would re-install it, personally,I was going to say the same thing.ĬallMeAl, I have a 2008 Harpertown octo as well. If you are not seeing that app, something is wrong with your OS install that may have deeper ramifications. This may not be applicable to you, though, so you'll need the guidelines above. However, you can make this irrelevant by using Logic and your computer in 64 bit, if possible, I was praying for the day when I could to that. Sad to say, Activity Monitor is the only way I know how to see what any particular app is using. It's about 2.4 GBs that Logic can handle, sometimes less, infrequently more. Oh: and for how much RAM Logic is using, though, you'll need to familiarize yourself with what it will handle before a crash. For other general Mac maintenance, I've found this to be a cheap and effective application: ![]() I very much recommend Menu Meters, if nothing else. Temperature Monitor 4.85 software download - Mac OS X - VersionTracker This is the temperature monitor that I use: Menu Meters is a free app that will tell you RAM used, RAM free, as well as other things useful for metering your Mac.
